Jointly organized by the College of International Culture, Education, and Foreign Affairs and the Center for English Language Teaching, the "113-2 AI-Driven EMI Teaching Community" held a grand teaching-sharing event on May 1, 2025, in Room Z1308. The session featured a captivating lecture by Ms. Liu, Li-Chun (also known as “Pumpkin Girl”), Lead Instructor at the Taiwan Game-Based Learning Association. The theme of her talk was “AI as the Perfect Teaching Partner: Practical Cases of Learning and Teaching Tools.” The event aimed to demonstrate how AI applications can help educators enhance their teaching strategies and improve the effectiveness of EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) courses. The participating teachers responded enthusiastically and gained valuable insights.
In the first part of the session, Ms. Liu introduced four practical AI tools in detail. First was the mind-mapping tool Felo, which offers a full-featured free version. Although in-site text editing is not available, its limitations can be compensated by integrating Canva, making it a powerful visual planning aid for lesson design. Next was Microsoft Bing Image Creator, which allows users to generate up to 15 images daily for free. Teachers can simply input keywords and choose artistic styles to create authorized illustrations for teaching. The third tool introduced was Canva for Education, which includes a “Magic Studio” feature that enables quick image editing and cloud-based presentation creation. It also serves as a platform for students to submit assignments online. Lastly, the Suno platform was presented as a tool for creating multilingual songs, useful for both language learning and class engagement.
During the middle part of the session, Ms. Liu shifted focus to AI tools for document and information management. Using ChatGPT and Copilot as examples, she demonstrated how teachers could employ “boss and secretary” questioning techniques to efficiently generate various teaching materials and forms. She also introduced how GPTs could be used for format conversion and document refinement. Furthermore, she highlighted the practicality of the ChatGPT mobile app in everyday scenarios such as travel translation and tour guidance, showcasing its flexibility as an intelligent voice assistant. Google NotebookLM was also introduced as an emerging tool capable of transcribing videos into text, compiling documents, and generating summaries—features particularly useful for building research databases and managing course materials.
In the final part of the event, Ms. Liu shared real-life examples of how these AI tools could be used to design interdisciplinary worksheets, offering practical templates across subjects such as language, science, and social studies. She further presented cases where AI was integrated with bilingual board game design to support language learning and communication skills, creating interactive and gamified learning environments. Her presentation clearly demonstrated that AI is more than just a tool—it is a catalyst for innovative teaching. The event was rich in content and highly practical, leaving educators with a profound understanding of the immense potential and future possibilities of AI in education.
