Blending Technology and Culture in Education 教育結合科技與文化

On May 20th, the teacher community of Technology Application and AI Integration in Teaching (科技運用與AI 融入教學教師社群) sponsored by the College was held at Q002 at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. Tina, from the English Teaching Center at Wenzao, invited Johnny Chou (周宸甫), director of Kaohsiung Takao Community University (高雄市港都社區大學), to present on " Crafting Immersive Spatial and Placial Experiences with Somatosensory Technology" (體感科技作為空間與地方的一種再現). Chou discussed how virtual reality technology can be used in classroom teaching through gaming experiences. He mentioned that imaging technology has been widely used in recent years to recreate large monuments and scenes, such as Italy's "Invisible Italy 360° VR Reproduction of Italian Sites" project, which uses 3D point cloud scanning to recreate ancient cities like Naples and Florence. Similarly, Canada's "The Unknown Photographer" project combines old battlefield photos with cloud technology for a spatial experience, offering students diverse learning resources. Teachers can use such imagery to more concretely present classroom content or referenced sites, aiding student comprehension.

Chou demonstrated his experiential tour app, allowing participating teachers and students to explore local history in a new way. The app features scenery from the old Fongshan County city and the Hamasing area, as displayed at the Kaohsiung Film Archive in 2019. Through AR technology and 360° panoramic views, participants can locate 12 representative local relics, enriching historical narratives and bringing large monuments and buildings to life. Chou emphasized that adopting new technologies is crucial for continuous advancement in the digital age. By partially modifying or entirely updating current or traditional learning methods and habits, new forms of learning can be created, reflecting the ongoing evolution of teaching. We, teachers must prepare for the very revolutionary future.
