AI can be your intelligent friend

On March 28th, Mr. Zonder Chang (張宗德) from the Center for English Language Teaching at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages shared knowledge about AI at Zhishan Hall, 13th floor of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. Mr. Chang compiled various practical AI tools to aid educators in utilizing AI websites or programs for teaching English language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through AI technology, students' pronunciation and writing weaknesses can be continuously improved. Moreover, these tools enable students to enhance their training independently after class. Mr. Chang highlighted the three stages of AI development, categorized as "Narrow AI (ANI)," " General AI  (AGI)," and " Superintelligent AI (ASI)." Currently, ChatGPT operates at the AGI level, with capabilities similar to humans. However, upon reaching ASI, AI may possess the ability to update its own programming to enhance its capabilities autonomously.

 

Mr. Chang brought up the concept of the Large Language Model (LLM), highlighting its role as a tool for enabling computers to comprehend and employ human language. The essence of LLM lies in the "deep learning" technology, where during the training process, it can extract features from vast amounts of data and gradually learn to establish knowledge. LLM can become an intelligent friend capable of answering questions and writing articles, analyzing data, and even assisting with programming. In educational settings, LLM serves as a valuable writing assistant, aiding teachers or students who need to write reports or articles by generating content and even checking grammar and spelling.

 

When Mr. Chang demonstrated how to operate the tools, it became clear that AI has progressed to the point where it can simulate facial images and sounds with remarkable accuracy. However, he also raised ethical concerns, including the risk of students becoming overly reliant on AI and losing their ability to think critically. He emphasized the importance of verifying the accuracy and appropriateness of information obtained and making necessary adjustments. In conclusion, the Large Language Model represents a powerful and multifunctional tool that is reshaping human-machine interactions. With the ongoing evolution of this technology, we can anticipate a more intelligent and convenient future.

3月28日,文藻外語大學英語教學中心張宗德老師在文藻外語大學13樓至善堂分享人工智能知識。張老師整理了多種實用的人工智能工具,幫助教育工作者利用人工智能網站或程式教授英語聽、說、讀、寫等技能。透過人工智能技術,學生的發音和寫作弱點可以持續改善。此外,這些工具也能讓學生在課後獨立加強訓練。張先生強調了人工智能發展的三個階段,分別為 「狹義人工智能 (ANI)」、「通用人工智能 (AGI) 」和 「超智能人工智能 (ASI)」。目前,ChatGPT 運作在 AGI 層級,能力與人類相似。然而,當達到 ASI 時,人工智能可能擁有更新自身程式的能力,以自主增強其能力。

 

張老師提出了大型語言模型 (Large Language Model, LLM) 的概念,強調其作為讓電腦能夠理解和運用人類語言的工具的作用。LLM 的精髓在於 「深度學習 」技術,在訓練過程中,它可以從大量的數據中提取特徵,並逐步學習建立知識。LLM 可以成為一個智慧的朋友,能夠回答問題、撰寫文章、分析資料,甚至協助編程。在教育環境中,LLM 可作為寶貴的寫作助手,協助需要撰寫報告或文章的老師或學生,產生內容,甚至檢查語法和拼字。

 

當張老師示範如何操作這些工具時,很明顯人工智慧已經進步到可以精準模擬臉部影像與聲音的地步。不過,他也提出了道德方面的疑慮,包括學生有可能過度依賴人工智能,而失去批判性思考的能力。他強調了驗證所獲得資訊的正確性與適當性,並做出必要調整的重要性。總而言之,大型語言模型代表了一種強大且多功能的工具,正在重塑人機互動。隨著這項技術的持續演進,我們可以預期未來將會更智慧、更便利。
