A Warm Luncheon with the President: Dr. Chuang Meets with College Foreign Faculty

On November 7^th, 2023, the President of the University, Dr. Chuang Hwei-Lin, hosted a delightful luncheon, providing an opportunity for meaningful interaction and engaging conversation with 7 of the College's foreign faculty members. The event allowed the President and these College international educators to have a fruitful exchange of ideas and information over a delightful meal.

During the luncheon, several foreign faculty members shared their perspectives on how to further enrich the academic environment. Among the ideas discussed, Dr. Adam Wilson expressed conveyed a strong interest in connections with local companies in the field of biology such as the cosmetics manufacturing industry which can be a means of captivating students' interest and expanding their horizons.

Dr. Elena Yakovleva expressed a keen interest in assisting with student recruitment efforts. However, she raised a valid concern regarding the predominantly Chinese content of recruitment materials. This language barrier was identified as a challenge, hindering foreign faculty members from understanding and actively participating in the recruitment process.

As a follow up suggestion, Dr. Philipp Fluri noted that the school's website might need some refinements. He suggested highlighting key recruitment information and emphasizing frequently asked questions (FAQ) for prospective students. Additionally, Dr. Bertha Du-Babcock proposed to incorporate images of foreign faculty members into recruitment presentations as a means of underscoring the college's dedication to internationalization.

These valuable discussions during the luncheon have opened up exciting possibilities for improvements in the academic environment both to the College and the School. The ideas and feedback provided by our College foreign faculty members are under careful consideration, with the aim of bolstering our global perspective and improving academic quality.
