On May 7, the College organized its faculty community lecture entitled “AI Tool Use and Gender Bias,” featuring Professor Kang as the guest speaker. The lecture focused on the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education, as well as ethical concerns and gender bias associated with the use of AI tools.

During the lecture, Professor Kang introduced various applications of AI in administration, research, teaching, and student learning, including presentation generation, assignment grading, translation for EMI courses, and the simplification of academic language. Through examples involving AI translation, image recognition, image generation, and AI-assisted assessment, she explained how insufficiently diverse or biased training data may lead to unfair outcomes and reinforce gender stereotypes. She also discussed possible approaches to mitigating AI bias, such as increasing data diversity, conducting bias assessments, promoting human-AI collaboration, and establishing transparent and accountable mechanisms.

Through this lecture, the College aimed to enhance faculty members’ understanding of AI applications, ethics, and gender-related issues while fostering critical thinking and evaluation skills in the use of AI tools. The lecture also encouraged faculty members to consider fairness and ethical responsibility while utilizing AI technologies to support teaching and professional practices.
